Biography

Héctor Garrido was born in 1969 in Huelva, a port city in the southwest of Spain. He resides in Cuba permanently and has developed a wide and successful career from his artistic works on the geometry of the earth's surface, as well as his portraits of illustrious personalities in the art world. One of his specialties is also the ethnographic portrait.

For twenty-seven years, Héctor has worked in Doñana, one of the most important national parks in Europe, for the Higher Council for Scientific Research -CSIC. During this time he has made the photographic accompaniment of several expeditions, which has led him to work in the most remote places on the planet, such as Antarctica, the deserts of the Sahara, or those of Australia. As a result, there have been multiple publications and exhibitions, always deeply committed to the conservation of nature and the health of the planet.

Now Garrido has definitively settled in Cuba and continues his artistic work with his wife and well-known Cuban actress, Laura de la Uz. He has published 23 popular scientific and photographic books, among which "Fractals: Intimate Anatomy of the Marsh" and "Illuminated Cuba" (both from Editorial Rueda, Madrid) have received critical acclaim. In addition, he has had long-lasting collaborations with prominent international magazines such as El País, National Geographic, and El Mundo amongst others.
