Coronavirus Curfew Strikes Havana

Cuban authorities have launched a strict 15-day curfew from 7pm to 5am every day in an effort to counter the rising infection numbers. Havana had already been in Phase 1 of Cuba’s 3-phase re-opening program, but the recent surge in cases had sent it back to Phase 0, limiting public transportation and opening of restaurants and bars. As case numbers still kept rising over the past weeks despite the newly imposed restrictions, the local government last week decided to order a curfew for Havana for at least two weeks. Traffic in and out of Havana will be “severely restricted” and residents will only be able to shop at local neighborhood stores. As Cuba continues to fight the outbreak of the pandemic, the Ministry of Health has confirmed 33 new infections yesterday for a total of 4,065 infection cases and 95 deaths related to COVID-19.
